Mecklenburg Resolves Also called the Charlotte Town Resolves. List o f Statements adopted in 1775 in NC after the fighting at Lexington and Concord rejecting all laws from the English Crown
Halifax Resolves A document adopted in April 1776 by North Carolina calling for the independence from Great Britain during the American Revolution and to form foreign alliances, a factor leading to the Declaration of Independence. The Resolves were the result of one year of discussions in the Colony and finaly signed by 83 delegates in Halifax, NC.
Declaration of Independence First formal Statement by a nation's people asserting their right to choose their government.During the Second Continental Congress in Philadelphia in 1776, the document was drafted by a 5 men committee with the lead of Thomas Jefferson. It was adopted by Congress on July 4th and signed on August 2 of 1776.
Articles of Confederation and perpetual Union The first written(1777) Constitution of the United States, where for the first time the new nation is named United States of America. Ratified in 1781. Congress was given power to make treaties, maintain armed forces and coin money
The Preamble It is an introduction to the highest law of the land, our Constitution, and begins with the words We, the People
The Constitution United States Government founding document establishing fundamental laws and protecting certain basic rights for its citizens. Signed September 17, 1787, by 39 delegates of the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia. George Washington was the first to sign the document.
Federalists Papers(pseudonym Publius) Papers by James Madison, Alexander Hamilton and John Jay written to persuade people( States) to ratify the Constitution. They would explain how the new government would work
Bill of Rights First 10 Amendments of the Constitution.It guarantees citizens freedom of speech, religion, press, right to bear arms, right to peaceably assemble, protection from unreasonable search
Amendments Modifications or additions to the Constitution, our current Constitution comprise 27 Amendments
Ratification Formal consent to a document, making it officially valid
