| Landform | A form or shape of part of the Earth's surface |
| Compass Rose | The part of a map that shows the directions |
| Physical features | Descriptions of a place that focus on its land, water, climate, and plant life |
| Cardinal directions | North, East, South, and West |
| Region | An area with common physical features that are different from another place |
| Natural Resource | Something that is found in nature that is useful to people |
| Map title | The thing that tells you what the map is about |
| Map key | This part of the map explains the meaning of symbols, colors, or patterns |
| Geography | The study of the physical features of the earth |
| Renewable resource | A resource that can be renewed in a short amount of time. Soil and trees are some examples |
| Intermediate directions | The directions northeast, southeast, northwest, southwest |
| Symbol | Something on a map the represents (stands for) something. Explained in the map key. |
| Non-renewable resource | A resource that cannot be replaced after it has been used. Examples include coal, natural gas, oil, and limestone. |
| Hemisphere | The earth is divided into two parts that are called ___________. |
| Continent | The largest areas of land on Earth |
| Equator | Divides the Earth into Northern and Southern Hemispheres |
| Prime Meridian | Divides the Earth into Eastern and Western Hemispheres |
| Human features | Things that people have added to a place like bridges, buildings, homes |
| North America | The continent we live in |
| Orleans | The parish we live in |
| Louisiana | The state we live in |
| United States of America | The country we live in |
| The three states that border Louisiana | Mississippi, Texas, Arkansis |
| Baton Rouge | The Louisiana state capitol |
| Gulf of Mexico | The body of water below Louisiana's southern border |
| New Orleans | The city we live in |
| Region | An area with common physical features that are different from other places |
| Grid maps | Use patters and lines to show information |
| Political maps | A map that shows human features like borders and cities |
| Physical map | A map that shows physical, or natural, features of the earth |
| Population map | A map that shows how many people live in a place (has a key) |
| Product map | A map that shows symbols or colored areas that stand for products or goods, has a key to show what the symbols or colors mean |
| Road map | A map that shows roads, highways, and railroads |
