Some simple terms and facts during the Progressive Era.

| The 18th Amendment | Change in the U.S. Constitution that outlawed making, buying, selling alcoholic beverages |
| The 21st Amendment | A change in he U.S. Constitution that overturned the 18th Amendment |
| Wages | money earned/pay for a job |
| Strike | to make or achieve a balance or bargain by refusing to work |
| Child Labor | a situation in which children worked like adults in factories |
| Reform | To make something better by change |
| Progressive movement | Reformers were needed to demand massive improvements in the following areas: the workplace, child labor, run-down tenements, fight corrupt businesses and political machines and bring about equal rights for groups left behind during the industrial Rev. |
| Tenements | They are apartment houses that barely meet or fail to meet the minimum standards of safety, sanitation, and comfort. |
| Political Machines | in the late 1800s they controlled the local government. |
| Upton Sinclair | muckraker who wrote THE JUNGLE which led to the meat inspection act of 1906 |
| Muckrakers | Journalist who wanted to expose corruption in order to remove it. |
| Theodore Roosevelt | 26th US President served from 1901-1909 |
| Woodrow Wilson | President in office while the 19th amendment was passed. He served from 1913-1921 and was the 28th US president |
