Term | Definition |

Osteosarcoma | AKA Osteogenic sarcoma. A type of bone cancer that begins in the cells that form bones. Osteosarcoma most often occurs in the long bones that make up the arms and legs, though it can occur in any bone. It tends to occur in children and young adults. |
Tendinitis | AKA Tendonitis. A condition in which the tissue connecting muscle to the bone becomes inflamed. |
Myopathy | General term referring to any disease that affects the muscles that control voluntary movement in the body. Patients experience muscle weakness due to a dysfunction of the muscle fibers. Some myopathies are genetic and can be passed from parent to child. |
Osteodynia | Pain in a bone. |
Achondroplasia | Achondroplasia is the most common cause of dwarfism, or significantly abnormal short stature. |
Meninges | The three membranes that cover and protect the brain and spinal cord (the CNS): the dura mater, arachnoid, and pia mater. |
Cerebropathy | Any disorder of the cerebrum. |
Encephalitis | Encephalitis is an inflammation of the brain, usually caused by a direct viral infection or a hyper-sensitivity reaction to a virus or foreign protein. Brain inflammation caused by a bacterial infection is sometimes called cerebritis. |
Craniomalacia | Abnormal softness of the bones of the skull. |
Subdural hematoma | A collection of blood in the space between the outer layer (dura) and middle layers of the covering of the brain (the meninges). It is most often caused by torn, bleeding veins on the inside of the dura as a result of a blow to the head. |
Ophthalmologist | A physician who specializes in diagnosing and prescribing treatment for defects, injuries, and diseases of the eye |
Hyperopia | AKA Farsightedness. Condition of the eye where incoming rays of light reach the retina before they converge into a focused image. |
Blepharoplasty | A cosmetic surgical procedure that removes fat deposits, excess tissue, or muscle from the eyelids to improve the appearance of the eyes, but may also increase visual field due to skin overhanging the eye. |
Presbyopia | Means "old eye" and is a vision condition involving the loss of the eye's ability to focus on close objects. |
Exophthalmos | Eyes appear to bulge out of their sockets. Usually due to an increase in the volume of tissue behind the eyes. |
