WWI Key Terms

TermDefinition
Alliance A union between people, groups, countries, etc. : a relationship in which people agree to work together
Allied Powers A group of countries coming together to fight the Central Powers- France, Britain, Russia, Italy, Japan, and the United States.
Central Powers A group of countries coming together to fight the Allied Powers- Germany, Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria, and the Ottoman Empire
Imperialism A policy or practice by which a country increases its power by gaining control over other areas of the world
Militarism The opinions or actions of people who believe that a country should use military methods, forces, etc., to gain power and to achieve its goals
Nationalism A feeling that people have of being loyal to and proud of their country often with the belief that it is better and more important than other countries
