Planning the Rising

Soon after World war 1IRB leaders began to plan the Rising. What was their belief? "That Britain's difficulty was Ireland's opportunity"
What did the IRB form to organise the Rising? a secret Military Council
Who were its members? Thomas Clarke, Seán MacDiarmada, Pádraig Pearse, Joseph Plunkett, Éamonn Ceant, Thomas MacDonagh
Why was the council secret? Due to the danger of infiltration by spies of the British Government
The military council needed weapons. Where did they get the money from? Irish Americans
Name the two individuals responsible for buying arms and ammunition from Germany. Joseph Plunkett and Roger Casement
What day and date was the Rising decided upon originally? East Sunday 23 April 1916
Why was Easter Sunday agreed upon? Easter was a holiday period and Pearse believed it was a blood sacrifice
What does a blood sacrifice mean? That they would give up their lives for the good future of Ireland
What was this symbolically linked to ? Christ's sacrifice on the cross during Easter
