TermDefinition
Debtor A person who owes money.
Proprietor Owner of a business or colony.
Pilgrim A person who travels for a religious reason.
Separtist Person who wanted to separate (leave) from the Church of England.
Indentured Servant A worker who agrees to provide a service for a certain amount of time in return for some form of payment.
Mayflower Compact A document created up by the Pilgrims who sailed to Plymouth on the Mayflower.
Northwest Passage This sea route was said to connect the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean.
Charter Document that permitted (allowed) colonists to settle on land claimed by their ruler.
Persecution The act of punishing or harassing someone.
Cash Crop Products such as vegetables, fruits, livestock, or tobacco that farmers grow to sell to others.
Plantation A large farm.
Colony A settlement that is ruled by another country.
New World A name referring to North and South America.
Merchant A person who sells products (like food, spices or goods).
