Government and Economic Systems Notes

TermDefinition
democracy a form of government in which the people elect leaders and rule by majority.
direct democracy citizens meet regularly in a popular assembly to discuss issues and vote for leaders.
limited government a type of government that has legal limits on its power, usually in the form of a constitution.
unlimited government a government in which there are no limits set on a ruler’s power.
Totalitarian governments control all aspects of society.
representative government a system in which people are the ultimate source of government authority.
Non-representative governments systems in which government power is unlimited and citizens have few, if any, rights.
Developed countries countries with strong economies and a high quality of life.
Developing countries countries with less productive economies and a lower quality of life.
