| Term | Definition |

| Software | is a set off instructions, also called program or application, that tells a computer how to perform tasks. |
| hardware | includes all of the physical parts of a computer. |
| input | information that is entered into a computer |
| input device | examples are the keyboard and mouse. |
| output | information that a computer produces or processes. |
| output device | examples are a printer or a monitor. |
| optical mouse | is controlled by a beam of light on the bottom of the mouse |
| external storage device | a storage device that can be easily removed from a computer is often small and portable. |
| margin | the blank edge that borders the area in which text and objects can be placed on a page. |
| header | an area for the text or other objects that will appear at the tope of the page. |
| footer | an area for the text or other objects that will appear at the bottom of the page in a document . |
| title bar | the strip at the top of a word document where you see the title of the page. |
| QAT | quick access toolbar-a small area on top of a word document where you see the title of the page. |
| tab | when you click on a tab you open a ribbon. examples of of tabs are file, insert and layout. |
| ribbon | a ribbon is a toolbar that opens when one of the tabs is clicked on. it has tools that are specific to the tab. |
