1.1 Political and Physical Features Vocabulary
| Term | Definition |

| Latitude | is a geographic coordinate that specifies the north–south position of a point on the Earth's surface. |
| Longitude | is a geographic coordinate that specifies the east–west position of a point on the Earth's surface, or the surface of a celestial body |
| Saline | containing or impregnated with salt. |
| Desalination | is a process that takes away mineral components or salt from saline water |
| Desalination Plants (factories) | factories/plants that use technology to convert salt water (ocean) to clean drinking water |
| Desert | arid land with usually sparse vegetation especially : such land having a very warm climate and receiving less than 25 centimeters (10 inches) of sporadic rainfall annually. |
| Desertification | the process by which fertile land becomes desert, typically as a result of drought, deforestation, or inappropriate agriculture. |
| Fertile land | means "able to reproduce, soil fertility refers to the ability of soil to sustain agricultural plant growth |
| Arable Land | is any land capable of being ploughed and used to grow crops. |
| Groundwater | water held underground in the soil or in pores and crevices in rock |
| Fossil Water | water that has been sealed underground in a layer of rock for thousands or even millions of years. |
| Water Pollution | occurs when harmful substances—often chemicals or microorganisms—contaminate a stream, river, lake, ocean, aquifer, or other body of water, degrading water quality and rendering it toxic to humans or the environment |
| Replenish | to fill or build up again. |
