America: Symbols, Landmarks, and Traditions
Term | Definition |

Allegiance | Loyalty or commitment of a subordinate to a superior or of an individual to a group or cause. |
Celebration | To do something special or enjoyable for an important event, occasion, holiday, etc. |
Flag | A usually rectangular piece of fabric of distinctive design that is used as a symbol. |
Landmark | A building or place that was important in history. |
Patriotic | Having or showing great love and support for your country. |
Symbol | A mark, sign, or word that indicates, signifies, or is understood as representing an idea, object, or relationship. |
Donkey | The symbol for the Democrat party. |
Elephant | The symbol for the Republican Party. |
Labor Day | The first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. |
Mount Rushmore | A mountain in the Black Hills of South Dakota noted for the huge portraits of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Theodore Roosevelt carved on it. |
Statue of Liberty | A large copper statue of a woman holding a torch aloft in her right hand located on Liberty Island in New York harbor. |
The Pledge of Allegiance | A solemn oath of allegiance or fidelity to the U.S. |
The Star Spangled Banner | The national anthem of the United States. |
U.S. Flag | It has 7 red stripes and 6 white stripes. These 13 stripes represent the original thirteen colonies. The flag also has a blue canton, a rectangle in the top left corner with 50 white stars. |
Uncle Sam | A common national personification of the U.S. Federal Government or the country in general. |
White House | The official residence and workplace of the president of the United States. |
