Causes of the American Revolution

TermDefinition
Taxation The means by which a government or the taxing authority imposes or levies a tax on its citizens and business entities.
Contributions A gift or payment to a common fund or collection.
Revolution A forcible overthrow of a government or social order, in favor of a new system.
American Revolution (1775–83), insurrection by which 13 of Great Britain's North American colonies won political independence and went on to form the United States of America
Benjamin Franklin A Founding Father and inventor, scientist, printer, politician, freemason and diplomat. Franklin helped to draft the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, and he negotiated the 1783 Treaty of Paris ending the Revolutionary War.
Boston Tea Party An American political and mercantile protest by the Sons of Liberty in Boston, Massachusetts, on December 16, 1773.
Founding Fathers The most prominent statesmen of America's Revolutionary generation, responsible for the successful war for colonial independence from Great Britain.
French and Indian War (Taxation) The reason Britain was in debt. Britain then began taxing the colonies to get their money back which led to the American Revolution.
George Washington Commander in chief of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War.
Sons of Liberty A secret political organization in the American Colonies that protested against British taxes and laws before the American Revolution.
Thomas Jefferson` Author of the Declaration of Independence.
Declaration of Independence An official act taken by all 13 American colonies in declaring independence from British rule.
