Representative Government and its Growth

TermDefinition
Systems of Government Distributes power among different parts and levels of the state.
Monarchy political system based upon the rule of a single person.
Representative Government A type of democracy founded on the principle of elected persons representing a group of people.
European Colonists Settlers who came from England, France, Portugal, and Spain.
Mayflower Compact A set of rules for self-governance established by the English settlers who traveled to the New World on the Mayflower.
Virginia House of Burgesses The first democratically-elected legislative body in British North America.
