Geographic Regions

TermDefinition
Climate The long-term pattern of weather in a particular area.
Economic Region A grouping of states to make a complete census division.
Landform A feature on the Earth's surface that is part of the terrain.
Map A symbolic representation of selected characteristics of a place, usually drawn on a flat surface.
Physical Features The natural environment, such as landforms, elevation, water features, climate, soil, natural vegetation, and animal life.
Political Region The natural environment, such as landforms, elevation, water features, climate, soil, natural vegetation, and animal life.
Vegetation The patchwork of plant species across the landscape.
Appalachian Mountains A system of mountains in eastern to northeastern North America.
Great Lakes A chain of deep freshwater lakes in east-central North America: Superior, Michigan, Huron, Erie, and Ontario.
Great Plains The grasslands of the central United States.
Mississippi River The longest river of North America.
Rocky Mountains A major mountain system of western North America.
United States The third-largest country in the world by area.
