Understanding Pronouns

QuestionAnswer
What is the job of an adjective? Adjectives describe nouns.
Do adjectives usually come before or after a noun? "The blue car drove away." Before a noun - "The blue car drove away." Car is the noun and blue is the adjective. Blue comes before the noun car.
Verbs are words that show what? Verbs how what someone or something is doing.
"Kendra walked her dog." In this sentence, the verb is walked. Does the verb "walked" show the action that Kendra is taking? Yes
The noun that come before a verb has a special name. It is called the "subject." Must every verb have a subject? Yes! Every verb will have a subject showing "who" or "what" is doing the action.
Since __________ identify "who" or "what" is doing the action, the subject is called the "doer of the action." subjects
Every sentence must have a ___________ and __________. subject and verb
In fact, you only need a subject and verb to have a complete sentence. "Jesus wept." Does this sentence have a subject and a verb? Yes. Because it has a subject and verb, it is a complete sentence. This is the shortest sentence in the Bible.
Every sentence has a subject which identifies "who" or "what" someone or something is doing. Now, if you identify the "doer of the action", the subject, then don't you need to show what action that the subject is taking? Don't you need to have a verb? Yes!
Since the subject and verb are so important to a sentence, here are steps that you can take to identify them both. Step 1 Find the verb. It's the word that shows action. Step 2 Take the verb and ask the question "who" or "what" before it. Step 3 The noun that answers that question is the subject.
