Deficit Spending Spending more money than is received and creating debt as a result
Gross Domestic Product The value of all goods and services produced in a nation in one year
Perjury The act of lying after swearing to tell the truth
What did both Nixon and Kissinger believe with regard to peace? They believed that peace would come through negotiation rather than through treats or force.
What were China’s reasons for wanting to improve relations with the United States? Both countries shared a distrust of the Soviet Union.
What were Nixon’s reasons for improving relations with China? Nixon hoped to end the Vietnam war, and he hoped that it would drive a deeper wedge between the Soviet Union and China.
What made Salvador Allende’s rise to power unique in Latin America? He was the first Socialist to do so through peaceful measures made him unique.
Why did the Arab oil-producing states pace an oil embargo on the United States? We helped Israel against Syria and Egypt in the Yom Kippur War.
What effect did the Embargo have on the US? Oil shortages, long line of gas pumps high gas prices.
Why did President Nixon want to strengthen law enforcement at all levels of government? He promised to strengthen, he felt that criminals were getting away with a bunch.
What were the major causes of the nation’s economic problems in the 1970’s? Inflation, high an unemployment, oil was expensive.

What does WTO stand for? World trade organization
What does WTO do? It oversees trade agreements and tries to settle trade disputes among its member nations. One of its goals is to help countries that are trying too build their economies.

What are some main goals of internal organizations? Peace keeping, Medical care, economic development, environmental care, disaster response, education, property, and human rights.
What did Nixon do to improve relations with China and Soviet Union? Detente, traveled to China, and Soviet Union, in Moscow, President Nixon, and Soviet leader Lenonid Brezhnev signed the strategic Arms Lomination treaty.
