| fort | a strongly constructed building used to house soldiers and weapons |
| Buffalo Soldiers | African American soldiers who fought against the Plains Indians in the late 1800s |
| Indian Territory | land set aside for American Indians in 1830 |
| confederacy | a union of people or groups who work together for a common goal |
