American Revolution

Lesson 1

QuestionAnswer
What was the French and Indian War? A conflict between Great Britain and France in North America.
What was the Stamp Act? An act passed by Great Britain in 1765 that put taxes on newspapers and paper sold in the American colonies.
What was the American Revolution? The war from 1775-1783 between the American colonies and Great Britain that led to the establishment of the independent United States.
What was a Patriot? A person living in the American colonies who was opposed to British rule.
What is Parliament? The lawmaking branch of government in Great Britain.
What is a Loyalist? A colonist who remained loyal to Great Britain during the American Revolution.
Why did colonists dump tea into the Boston Harbor? To protest the new tax
Which battle started the American Revolution? Lexington and Concord
Why did Britain pass the Stamp Act? To raise taxes to pay for the French and Indian War
What does "No taxation without representation" mean? The belief that Parliament had no right to pass laws to govern them if they did not get to elect members of Parliament.
