Convoy System A system used to protect germany's ships. This means they had one ship delivering goods having smaller ships guide them to their destination.
League of Nations A league trying to prevent war from happening in the future. United States never joined this by not signing it. Makes the League less powerful. Henry-Cabot-Lodge was against joining the League.
Fourteen Points Wilson’s plan to have peace without a war. He came up with ways to do this. They believed in self-determination for the people.
Self-determination Wilson’s plan to let the people in the country choose certain laws. Everyone had different opinions like getting rid of secret agreements and lowering taxes.
Reparations Paying money for the repairs that needs to be fixed. Germany had to pay 33 million dollars for it. A levy on a defeated country forcing it to pay some of the war costs of the winning countries.
Treaty of Versailles Russia signs treaty with Germany. Russia gives lead in order to get out of the war. (Russian civil war going on.) A piece of paper that you had to follow. They used this for peace.
Henry Cabot Lodge A Republican man in congress. A man that did not want the Treaty of Versailles to happen. He thought it took power away from the US when declaring war.
“Peace without victory” Woodrow Wilson came up with. This was to have harmony with other countries. He wanted to not have winners or losers. Wilson felt Germany should not have full responsibility.
The Big Four Wilson, David George, Georges Clemenceau, and Vittorio Orlando. US, France, Britain, and Italy. They made decisions without Germany. Meeting to discuss Germany's responsibility in war. Treaty of Versailles - Paris Wilson didn't want to punish Germany.
American Expeditionary Force U.S troops in the United States. England and France wanted the U.S troops to help them.
Communists People that wanted others to have the same pay as them. The Bolsheviks were a group that wanted this.
Treaty of Brest-Litovsk This was signed to join the central powers. They did this because many soldiers died in the war and they needed help.
Harlem Hellfighters People that were African American that were in the war being very brave. They trained more than other units. Were the first people to reach the Rhine River. After they got a medal.
Armistice A plan for a compromise. This was on November 11, 1918. Germany was the one to surrender.
General Pershing Was a senior commander of the AEF on the western front of WWI.
Western Front/Eastern Front Central Powers had to fight a two front war, once Russia was out of the war, all their forces went to the Western Front. Eastern fronts are now closed. One of the reasons the US entered war. They then went to the Western Front.
Results Of WWI U.S. emerges as world power League of Nations Rise of WWII dictators because of poor countries after WWI. Isolationism in the U.S.
Why did Russia leave WWI? They lost many soldiers so they had to sign the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk.
How much was WWI? Around 260 billion dollars
Freedom of The Seas The specific war aims for the United States during WWI to keep peace after the war. The right of merchant ships to travel freely in international waters without having to worry about war interference.
What law did the U.S want? No barriers of tariffs or secret alliances or treaties.
Arms Reduction A newly started treaty. To limit construction and they signed this in February 6, 1922. Reduce in weapons.
