Arraignment Defendant is told of charges and enters a plea
Complaint Formal notice that a lawsuit is being brought
Damages Money paid to make up for an injury or loss
Defendant Person required to answer charges (civil & criminal case)
Evidence Anything that establishes proof
Negligent Careless
Plaintiff Party who files the complaint in a civil case
Plea An answer to charges (guilty or not guilty)
Probable cause Reasonable belief that a person has committed a crime
Prosecution Attorney for the state/federal government who is carrying out legal action (criminal case)
