Why do people settle in a particular location? (3 factors) The location’s topography, natural resources (ex. vegetation, water), good climate.
Why is water so important to the settlement of a particular place? (5 reasons) Water provides fresh water to drink, cleaning to prevent disease, food from the water, irrigation for crops, and people and supplies were transported on water.
How did the Nile River influence the growth of trade in Egypt? The Nile River provided transportation for people and goods which made it easier to trade. Also, it attracted people so more people would come to trade.
What are the Cardinal directions? Cardinal- North, East, South, West
What are the Primary Intercardinal directions? Primary Intercardinal- NorthEast, NorthWest, South East, South West
What are the Secondary Intercardinal directions? Secondary Intercardinal- NorthNorthEast, EastNorthEast, EastSouthEast, SouthSouthEast, SouthSouthWest, WestSouthWest,WestNorthWest, NorthNorthWest.

Anubis -Anubis weighs the hearts of people who make it through the afterlife to judge if they were a good person or bad. -If they were bad then their heart would be eaten.
Early Dynastic Period & Menes/Narmer’s legacy -King Narmer united Upper and Lower Egypt -Created a beautiful capital city close to Lower Egypt. This was to show Lower Egypt he cared and to keep an eye on them in case they rebelled. -Invented calendar and hieroglyphics.
Old Kingdom & Khufu's legacy -Nicknamed “Age of the Pyramids”. -Khufu constructed the Great Pyramid near Giza. It is the last 7 ancient wonders standing today.
The Middle Kingdom & Senusret I’s legacy -Also known as the “Period of Reunification”. -The capital became Thebes. -Senusret helped architecture, arts, education, and literature flourish. -The period ended because Hyksos conquered Egypt.
(1) The New Kingdom & the legacies of: Hatshepsut Akhenaten King Tut Ramses II (The Great) -“Empire Age” and the “Golden Age”. -Egyptians advanced into new technology. -Egypt conquered the Hyksos and took back power. -Hatshepsut was one of the first female pharaohs and promoted trade.
(2)The New Kingdom & the legacies of: Hatshepsut Akhenaten King Tut Ramses II (The Great) -Akhenaten, also a pharaoh, caused troubles with the priests when closing down the temples that didn’t worship Aten. This is because he was trying to make Egypt monotheistic and worship only Aten. -Tutankhamun (King Tut) brought back polytheism.
(3)The New Kingdom & the legacies of: Hatshepsut Akhenaten King Tut Ramses II (The Great) -Ramses the Great became ruler after King Tut and defeated the Hittites. -He also built many temples. -This period ended due to drought and famine and then was taken over by outsiders
Late Dynastic Period & Cleopatra VII’s Legacy -Many foreign invaders were in Egypt, the Kushites, Assyrians, Persians, Greeks, and Romans.
Late Dynastic Period & Cleopatra VII’s Legacy (2) -Alexander the Great conquered Egypt. -But this Hellenistic age ended when Cleopatra came into power. -After Cleopatra died Egypt became a Roman province.
The connection between Howard Carter and King Tut Howard Carter was the archaeologist whose digging team discovered King Tut’s tomb.
3 Seasons in Egypt (English “names” & what peasants do during each season) Akhet- the area was flooded so peasants were working on royal projects (canal maintenance and pyramid building). Peret- soil is fertile so the peasants plant and tend to their crops.

Rosetta Stone How we translated Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics. We got a better understanding of how the Ancient Egyptians lived. Also, it had Greek and Roman on it which taught us the languages that the Egyptians knew.
Hieroglyphics The language of the Egyptians that was used formally and on temples and buildings. The Rosetta Stone helped us translate the language.
Mummification Process & basic beliefs -Egyptians believed if your body was kept intact when you died, -you would be able to reunite with your soul in the afterlife. -They flushed your brain out of your nose-first.
Mummification Process & basic beliefs (2) To keep your body intact they took out all of your organs except the heart, the heart was needed to tell if you were a good or bad person.
Mummification Process & basic beliefs (3) -Then they preserved your organs and your body in natron salt. -They put a scarab beetle amulet over your heart so that it wouldn’t betray you if you lied
Valley of the Kings The Valley of Kings was where King Tutankhamun was buried when he died and many other pharaohs.
