| Nativism | Anti-immigrant beliefs, preferring those born in the US |
| Push factor | Disadvantage that causes a person to leave their home country |
| Pull factor | Advantage of a place that encourages a person to move there |
| Telegraph | Invention that sends messages using electrical signals |
