Unit 5 Bell Work Terms

| altruism | the belief in or practice of selfless concern for the well-being of others |
| citizenship | the state of being vested in rights, privileges, and duties |
| empathy | the ability to understand and share the feelings of another |
| foresight | the ability to predict what will happen or will be needed in the future |
| gratitude | the quality of being thankful; ready to show appreciation |
| healthcare | the maintenance and improvement of physical and mental health through medical services |
| helping professions | careers that nurture the growth of problems a person has (nurses, doctors, social workers, teachers, preachers) |
| humanitarian | concerned with or seeking to promote human welfare |
| longevity | long existence or service |
| needs assessment | a process for determining and addressing needs or "gaps" for people in need |
| oath | a solemn promise regarding one's further action or behavior |
| patient-centered care | care that is respectful of, and responsive of, individual patient needs |
| public health | the health of the population as a whole, monitored and regulated by the state |
| selflessness | concern more with the needs and wishes of others than yourself |
| servant leadership | a philosophy of leading others by putting the members' needs over your own |
| simulated work environment | a learning environment in which a trainee is able to practice using and operating relevant industrial equipment under realistic workspace conditions |
| stewardship | the job of supervising or taking care of something, like an organization or a property |
| sustainability | the ability to be maintained at a certain rate or level |
