Vocabulary for Unit 5: Revolution

BOYCOTT Refusal to stop buying goods or services
IMPORT Bring goods into a country
LOYALIST Colonist who supported the British government during the American Revolution
NATURAL RIGHTS Right, freedoms and privileges which are such a basic part of human nature that they cannot be taken away
PARLIAMENT Group of people that makes the laws in Great Britain
PATRIOT Colonist against British rule in the colonies
PURSUIT The act of following or going after
RATIFY To pass or be accepted
REBELLIOUS The state of going against set rules
REDCOAT A British soldier, nickname due to his red uniform
REPEAL To throw out, cancel, or undo
REPRESENTATIVES Members of government, usually ones that were chosen by a vote, to act on behalf of others
REVENUE Money earned
REVOLUTION A sudden, complete overthrow or change, usually associated with government
SONS OF LIBERTY Colonists who protested the actions of the British leaders, Samuel Adams created this group who led the Boston Tea Party
UNALIENABLE RIGHTS Rights thought to be based on nature and providence of the people
VIOLATES Does not agree with, goes against
