Archaeology

chapter 2 in history book.

QuestionAnswer
Archaeology the story of the past from material remains.
Artefacts objects made by people e.g spears and pots.
Prehistory the history of people before writing was invented.
Excavations the systematic digging and recording of an archaeological site.
Stratigraphy the idea that the top layer of soil is the youngest and as you go down it gets older and older.
Dendrochronology the process of determining the age of a tree or wood used in structures by counting the number of annual growth rings.
Radiocarbon Dating an absolute dating method based on the radioactive decay of Carbon-14 contained in organic materials.
Conservation the protection and preservation of ancient objects so that they do not decay.
