Cell Organelles
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Nucleus | A membrane bound organelle that contains genetic material in eukaryotes. |
| Mitochondrion | A membrane bound organelle which is the power house of the cell and is responsible for cellular respiration and produces most of the ATP. |
| Chloroplast | Organelles in plants that use photosynthesis to produce oxygen and glucose using carbon dioxide and water which also provides food for the plant. |
| cell wall | The cell wall is found in plants which help provide the plant with structural support and protects the plant as well. |
| plasma membrane | The plasma membrane otherwise known as the cell membrane which regulates the transport of molecules out and within the cell. |
| ribosome | The ribosomes are responsible for being packaged into proteins which move around the cell. |
| rough endoplasmic reticulum | The RER packages the ribosomes to make proteins which are then transported out of the cell. |
| smooth endoplasmic reticulum | The SER main function is to synthesize lipids and detoxify harmful metabolic byproducts. |
| Golgi body | The Golgi body transports proteins to the cell membrane to be transported out of the cell through the cell membrane. |
| lysosome | The lysosome breaks down organelles that don't work it gets rid of the waste. |
| vacuole | The vacuole stores water |
| cytoplasm | |
| vesicle | |
| cytoskeleton | |
| cilium | |
| flagellum | |
| prokaryote | |
