What were the Advantages for the Americans? Motivation, knowledge of land, good shots, good leadership, eventual foreign help (France)
What is a Loyalist? Colonists who supported the British in the war.
What is a Patriot? Colonist who wanted independence and rebels against Britain,

What were the American disadvantages? Not well trained, no navy, few military supplies
What were the British advantages? Well-trained army, best navy in the world
Where were the battles in the middle of the war fought? Middle colonies
What were the British Disadvantages? Not know the land, far from home, unknown enemy
Why did the British strategy of capturing the Hudson river and cutting of New England not work? they were not able to take the Hudson river valley
What battle was the turning point of the war? Battle of Saratoga
Why was Saratoga the turning point of the war? After that the French came in as US allies
Where were battle later in the war fought? the southern colonies
How did fighting change in the South? more guerrilla warfare and fighting was more like a Civil War (loyalist vs. patriot)
Why did the British move the fighting to the South? They were hoping to find more loyalists there
What is significant about the Battle of Lexington and Concord? First shots of the Revolution
What is significant about the Battle of Fort Ticonderoga? Americans get cannons
What is significant about the Battle of Bunker Hill? Americans hold their own and the British win but at a high cost in casualties
What is significant about the Battle of Trenton? 900 Hessians captured. America gets a big victory when they need it
What is significant about the Battle of Cowpens? Americans learn to use militia effectively
What is significant about the Battle of Yorktown? Last major battle of the war
Where were the battles of Bunker Hill and Lexington/Concord fought? Massachusetts
Where were the battles of Trenton and Princeton fought? New Jersey
Where were the battles of Germantown and Brandywine fought? Pennsylvania
Where was the battle of Saratoga fought? New York
Where were the battle of Camden and Cowpens fought? South Carolina
Where was the battle of Yorktown fought? Virginia
How did the Revolution affect African Americans? Many of them fought with the British to gain freedom but when the US won most were returned to slavery
How did the Revolution affect slavery? Many northern states began abolishing (ending) slavery
What roles did women play in the war? Spies, nurses, camp followers and some fought as men
What role did Native Americans play in the war? Some fought with British to protect their land. Americans tried to get them to stay neutral. The war will end the Iroquois confederacy.
