| timberline | the point on a mountain where it is too cold for trees to grow |
| dry farming | the use of irrigation and water conservation to help grow crops |
| geyser | an underground spring that shoots steam and hot water high into the air |
| wildlife preserve | an area of land set aside to protect wildlife |
| Pacific Rim | the countries that border the Pacific Ocean |
| pollution | what makes the air, soil, or water dirty |
| peninsula | a body of land almost entirely surrounded by water |
