What is the Proclamation line of 1763? a law that did not allow colonists from moving west of the Appalachian Mountains
What is "Consent of the Governed"? people give the government the power. People can overthrow the government if they are not happy with it.
What does the word "grievance" mean? Complaints
What were some of the grievances listed in the Declaration of Independence? Colonists couldn't trade with other countries (mercantilism), Quartering Act, No Taxation without Representation.
What happened as an effect of the Boston Tea Party? Intolerable/Coercive Acts
What was the first battle of the American Revolution? Lexington and Concord
What battle was the turning point of the American Revolution? Saratoga
Why was the battle of Saratoga a turning point of the American Revolution? The French joined as an ally
What happened during Valley Forge? Many soldiers died in the COLD weather from starvation and diseases.
What was the final battle of the American Revolution? Yorktown
What Treaty officially ended the American Revolution? Treaty of Paris

What is a Patriot? People who supported America breaking away from Great Britain
What is a Loyalist? People who were loyal to King George. They didn't want to break away from Great Britain

How did Thomas Paine help persuade the colonists to break away from Great Britain? He wrote the pamphlet "Common Sense"
How did Patrick Henry help persuade the colonists to break away from Great Britain? He was a great orator (public speaker) that said "Give me Liberty or Give me Death!"
How did Mercy Otis Warren help persuade the colonists to break away from Great Britain? She was a playwright (wrote plays) that made the British look bad
Who was the commander in chief of the Continental Army? George Washington
What is civil disobedience? When you break the law but don't hurt anyone in the process. For example, the Boston Tea Party
What are Unalienable Rights? Rights that cannot be taken away from you (Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness)
What is boycott? refusing to buy goods from a certain country
