Great Depression A period of harsh economic times in the U.S. that lasted from 1929-1939.
Pandemic An infectious disease spreading throughout a country or the world.
CARES Act The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act was passed by Congress and signed by President Trump on March 27th, 2020 to provide financial support to Americans.
Unemployment Individuals who are seeking a job but are unable to find work. The number people unable to find work serves as an indicators of an economy’s status.
Hardship A condition that causes difficulty or suffering.
Economy The system of the production, distribution and trade, as well as consumption of goods and services.
Social Distancing Keeping a safe space between yourself and other people who are not from your household to prevent the spread of a contagious disease.
2020 Pandemic Economy Covid-economic impact on the U.S. in terms of unemployment and business shut down.
Dust Bowl A period of severe dust storms that greatly damaged the plains region of the U.S. during the Great Depression.
Black Tuesday October 29, 1929, the day on which the New York Stock Exchange lost $9 billion dollars beginning of the Great Depression.
Stock Market Crash The collapse of stock prices dropping 24.8%, in one day marking one of the worst economic decline in U.S. history.
Breadlines A group of people waiting in line for free food to be distributed by a government agency or charitable organization,
New Deal Program A series of programs designed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt during the Great Depression to provide “Relief, Recovery, Reform” (3 R’s)
Government Relief Support from the federal government distributed to its citizens in need.
