specialization | when people train to do a specific job such as making pottery or sewing clothes |
technology | advancements in the way things are done to make a job easier to do. |
artifact | an object from the past that can be studied to find out how people lived during a particular time in history |
religion | a set of beliefs held by a group of people |
historian | a person who records history |
geographer | a person who studies geography (land) |
archaeologist | a person who studies the objects/artifacts left by people in the past |
pyramid | a tomb where ancient leaders were buried |
tomb | a burial chamber |
polytheism | the belief in MANY gods |
monotheism | the belief in ONE god |
Menes | An Egyptian pharaoh known for uniting Upper and Lower Egypt |
Hatsheput | a FEMALE Egyptian pharaoh who was known for going on many quests to bring back riches such as gold and tigers. |
economy | the way a group of people manage their riches |
Rosetta Stone | A large stone that enabled historians to translate and unlock the Egyptian language of hieroglyphics |
scribe | a person close to the pharaoh who wrote down important information |
delta | a fan shaped area in the land where planting was best |
silt | a dark fertilizer that made planting successful |
shaduf | a large tool with a bucket that helped the Egyptian farmers carry water from the Nile River to their irrigation canals. |
hieroglyphics | the written symbols that the Egyptians wrote down to record their important information |
social pyramid | the hierarchy of people in a group of people. In ancient Egypt the Pharaoh was at the top and slaves were at the bottom. |
