Reasons why American Colonists settled where they did They came to America to become wealthy and create a new life.
Foundations of American Democracy The people decide who represents the government.
Why did the Anti-Federalists oppose the ratification of the Constitution in 1787? Because the new system threatened liberties and didn't protect individual rights.
Thomas Paine and Common Sense In Common Sense Thomas Pine argues in favor of American independence.
Declaration of Independence This document talks about how all men are crated equal. And should have equal rights.
Shay’s Rebellion Was a rebel from Worcester in the governments attempt to collect taxes on individuals/ trade.
Louisiana Purchase Thomas Jefferson purchased the Louisiana territory from France.
Missouri Compromise of 1820 An attempt to balance the power of free states and slave states in congress. The compromise was passed and Missouri became a slave state and Maine a free state.
Compromise of 1850 Was when 5 laws passed that delt with territory and slavery.
Manifest Destiny A belief that settlers were destined to expand to North America.
Economic differences of the North and South prior to the Civil War The North had factories and didn't rely on slaves. The South was filled with farming that was ran by slaves.
Lincoln’s goal in the Civil War His main goal was to preserve the Union.
Seneca Falls Convention This was the first women's right convention. This started the women suffrage movement.
Reconstruction Period The Reconstruction Period was from 1865 -1877. During this time the Union helped the South become part of the Union again.
President Andrew Johnson and the Reconstruction Period President Andrew gave a Reconstruction plan that gave the South help to transfer from slavery to freedom. But offered nothing to the blacks.
Result of the Civil War After four years of war the Southern states were readmitted back to the United States. Slavery then was abolished nation wide.
Black Codes Black Codes was laws put into place to limit the freedom of African Americans.
Native Americans The Native Americans also known as the indigenous people were the first ones to live in the United States before Christoper Columbus and the Europeans.
Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 Was a law that forbid all immigration of Chinese workers.
Indian Wars between 1860-1890 The indeginous people were over their land being taken from the American Setters. The "Indian Wars" were multiple battles fought to get back some of their land.
Homestead Act of 1862 President Lincon signed this act that would give citizens 160 acres to build on and live on for a small fee.
Transcontinental Railroad Was a railroad that went across the United States and made transportation easier.
Development of the Great Plains The plains were well taken over my the natives. They hunted on this land. When the settlers came they took this over.
Three-fifths Compromise An agreement between the Northern and Southern states. Three-fifths of the save population would be counted for direct taxing.
Reconstruction goals after the Civil War To bring the South back to the Union while maintaining rights and protection over the newly free slaves.
Economic impact of the Civil War The Unions economy soared during the civil war due to the industrial work. The South didn't do to good dude to agriculture and slave labor.
Tenements Small and narrow apartment rooms that were mostly rundown and over populated.
Women's’ Suffrage Movement Was a decade long fight for women to be equal to men. Women fought for the rights to vote.
Battleship Maine Was a United States Navy ship that was sunk in Havana. This added to the Spanish- American war.
Why was the North worried about Great Britain during the Civil War? Great Britain didn't want a strong Untied States and if they would have helped the South instead then the war would have ended vary differently.
Impressments Impressment also known as the Press Gang were people that would forcefully recruit men to the military sometimes in violent ways.
Trail of Tears Was when approximately 60,000 Native Americans were forced to relocate.
Why did the South secede from the Union? They thought that there way of life (slavery) was at risk with the new president Abraham Lincoln.
Emancipation Proclamation The Emancipation Proclamation stated that all slaves in the South should be set free.
Why could Lincoln not carry out his plan of Reconstruction? Because the Republicans believed that his plan was to lenient on the South.
Muckrakers Was a group of American journalists that would expose literature and corrupt leaders.
Who had great job opportunities during WWI when they did not before the war? Women
Treaty of Versailles A peace treaty that ended WW1.
Rapid Growth of Cities The growth of cities was good for the economy. But effected living conditions like overcrowding and the city staying clean.
Why did US enter WWI? The US declared war on Germany after they sank the Lusitania, Zimmerman, Economy ties, and the US had a bond with Britain.
League of Nations A group that was made after WW1 to solve problems between countries before they got out of hand.
Progressivism A philosophy in favor of social reforms.
Americans reaction to WWI The US originally wanted to stay neutral.
Lusitania sinking The Lusitania sank during the 1st World War by Germany. After this countries stood against Germany.
Zimmermann Telegram The Zimmermann was a note in code from Germany saying that if the U.S. would join the war then Germany would make an alliance with Mexico.
