Geography of Kansas Vocabulary Terms

Physical Features | Natural features such as landforms, bodies of water, climate, vegetation, and soil. |
Ecosystem | A community of living things that depend on each other in order to survive. |
Precipitation | The amount of water in the air that falls to the Earth as rain or snow. |
Drought | A prolonged period of time with little or no precipitation. |
Arid | Land or climate having little or no rain; too dry or barren to support vegetation. |
Aquifer | A layer of rock that holds water underground. |
Erosion | The action of soil or rock being worn away by wind or water. |
Cultivate | To prepare and use land for growing crops. |
Plain | A flat, treeless landscape that receives low levels of rainfall. |
Prairie | Areas of grassland with moderate temperatures, moderate rainfall, and few trees. |
