| delegate | a person chosen to represent a larger group |
| Loyalist | an American colonist who remained loyal to Great Britain |
| militia | a volunteer army |
| Parliament | the law-making part of the government of Great Britain |
| Patriot | an American colonist who supported independence |
| Stamp Act | a law that stated that if colonists bought any printed material, they also had to buy a special stamp. The money for the stamp was a tax. |

| slavery | the practice of forcing people to work without pay |
