13 Colonies Review

CharacteristicRegion
Geography: These colonies had a rocky coastline with hills and mountains inland, farming was difficult. Northern Colonies
Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Connecticut and Rhode Island Northern Colonies
The coldest of the three colonial regions because it furthest north. Northern Colonies
New York, New Jersey, Delaware and Pennsylvania Middle Colonies
Because this region did not have good farmland, these colonies had to import food and trade other resources Northern Colonies
This region had rich, fertile soil and a mild climate. Middle Colonies
: Many colonists farmed wheat and other grains. Known as the “Bread Basket Colonies.” Middle Colonies
Colonists here came from many different European countries. Culture included a mix of different traditions and religions. Middle Colonies
Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia Southern Colonies
Good soil and flat land. Colonies here were agricultural. Southern Colonies
Warmest of the three colonial regions. Hot and humid summers Southern Colonies
Many plantations grew crops including sugar, rice, cotton, indigo, and tobacco. Crops were maintained by slave labor. Southern Colonies
