| Revolution | a movement to bring about change; the overthrow of a government by those who are governed |
| Siege | a blockade; surrounding a city or fort to cut it off from supplies. |
| Delegate | a person acting as a representative for others |
| Republic | type of government with elected representatives |
| Courier | a messenger generally delivering correspondence |
| Treaty | an agreement between governments |

| War Council | meeting held to decide on a course of action, usually during battle |
| Federalist | someone who believes in sharing power between the states and the national government |
| Retreat | movement by soldiers away from an enemy because the enemy is winning or has won a battle |
| Cavalry | soldiers who fought on horseback |
| Reinforcements | people and supplies that are sent to help or support an army, military force, etc. |
