Mapping Vocabulary

This will review mapping vocabulary

TermDefinition
Map Scale The relationship between a distance on a map and the real distance on Earth
Border A boundary line separating two or more areas of land
Compass Rose A small graphic on a map showing intermediate and cardinal directions.
Cardinal Directions The four main directions on a map or globe (N, S, E, W)
Intermediate Directions The directions located between the main directions on a map or globe (NE, NW, SE, SW)
Relative Direction The description of a place in relation to another point or place (example - Florida is South of New Hampshire)
Region An area of land sharing common characteristics and natural resources
