bicameral having two branches or chambers
republic a state in which supreme power is held by the people and their elected representatives, and which has an elected or nominated president rather than a monarch.

depreciate diminish in value over a period of time

manumission release from slavery

legislative branch the branch of government having the power to make laws; the legislature.

electoral college a body of people representing the states of the US, who formally cast votes for the election of the president and vice president.
judicial branch the branch of government charged with the interpretation of laws and the administration of justice; the judiciary.
checks and balances counterbalancing influences by which an organization or system is regulated, typically those ensuring that political power is not concentrated in the hands of individuals or groups.
amendment a minor change or addition designed to improve a text, piece of legislation
federalist a person who advocates or supports a system of government in which several states unite under a central authority.
anti federalist a person who opposed the adoption of the U.S. Constitution
