Geographic Regions

Coastal Plain lowlands provide many great harbors
Appalachian Highlands Old, eroded mountains (oldest mountain range in North America)
Canadian Shield horseshoe shape; erosion and glaciers created hills and lakes
Interior Lowlands flatlands with many rivers, valleys, and hills
Great Plains flat land that gradually rise in the west
Rocky Mountains High, rugged mountains from Alaska to almost Mexico; includes Continental Divide
Basin and Range has high and low points (mountains and Death Valley)
Coastal Range rugged mountains and fertile valleys (closer to the highest mountains in the US)
