European Exploration of Texas Vocabulary

Absolute Chronology A chronology that gives the age of a feature or event in years.
Coast The land near a shore.
Conflicting Territorial Claims A territorial argument
Defining to determine or identify the essential qualities or meaning of
Characteristics a distinguishing trait, quality, or property
Eras a fixed point in time from which a series of years
Gold a yellow metallic element that occurs naturally in pure form and is used especially in coins
Historians a student or writer of history
Major Eras A fixed point in time.
Mapping The act of illustrating geographical features of an area.
Relative Chronology A chronology that gives the age of a feature or event relative to the age of other features or events
Settlement where people establish a community
1519 Alonso Alvarez de Pineda was the first known European to explore and map the Texas coastline.
Era:Age of Contact Is the wave of exploration that began when Christopher Columbus found North America.
de Pineda In 1519, he led out some expeditions to map the gulf of Mexico
de Vaca In 1527, de Vaca left his home on an expedition but then was stranded with about 250 men and only 3 including him survived.
