Desalinización El proceso de tomar la sal del agua de mar y su uso para el agua potable.

Creciente fértil La región de tierra cultivable en el Medio Oriente donde comenzaron las primeras civilizaciones.
Monarquía Un gobierno encabezado por un rey o una reina.
Teocracia Un gobierno controlado por líderes religiosos.
Nómada miembro de un pueblo o tribu que no tiene residencia permanente, pero se desplaza de un lugar a otro.
Tasa de alfabetización El porcentaje de adultos que saben leer y escribir.
Gobierno parlamentario (democracia) Una forma de democracia donde el líder es miembro de la legislatura. Es la legislatura la que elige al líder.

Árabes Un grupo de personas originarias de la Península Arábiga. La mayoría (no todos) son musulmanes. Es el grupo étnico más grande en el Medio Oriente.
Persas Un grupo de personas que remontan su historia al antiguo Imperio Persa. La mayoría de los persas viven en Irán y hablan farsi.
Corán o Corán El libro sagrado de la fe islámica.
Grupo étnico un grupo de personas que comparten una herencia, raza, idioma, costumbres, creencias y, a veces, religión en común.
Empresa privada personas que dirigen sus propios negocios.
OPEP: Organización de países exportadores de petróleo. Fue fundada para establecer los precios y las políticas del petróleo.
Cuota Una forma de limitar la cantidad de bienes extranjeros que pueden ingresar a un país.
Embargo Cuando un país anunció que ya no comerciara con otro país.
PIB (Producto Interno Bruto) el valor de mercado total de los bienes y servicios producidos por un país en un año específico
Especialización Aquellos productos que un país fabrica mejor y que tienen demanda en el mercado mundial.
