| Compass | A navigational instrument that shows direction (north, south, east, west) |
| Astrolabe | A tool used by navigators in the 1400s and 1500s to determine a ships position by charting the position of the stars |
| caravel | A small, highly maneuverable three-masted ship used by the Portuguese and Spanish in the exploration of the Atlantic. |
| Cultural Diffusion | The exchange of people, ideas, plants, animals, diseases, and technologies between the Old World . |
| Causes of Exploration | 3 G's - gold, a desire for wealth; God - to spread Christianity; Glory - national competition |
| Age of Exploration | Europeans wanted greater access to spices and other products of Asia, wanted to find sea routes to Asia |
| Colonization | A bigger, more powerful country would take control of a smaller, weaker country. |
| Latitude | The lines that run east to west on a map or globe |
| Continent | One of the large land masses in the world; there are seven of them |
| Prince Henry | He was called Henry the Navigator because he sponsored exploration, especially of Africa |
