Explain the term 'Patrician' a patrician was a wealthy noble family who ruled Rome. They had huge estates and hundreds of slaves.
Explain the term 'Plebeian' a poor family, who made up the vast majority of the population. They farmed, worked in trades and served in the army.
What is a toga? A toga is what a patrician man wore. It was a long white robe draped over the shoulder and down to the feet.
What is a stola? A stola is what a woman wore. ( a long dress)
What is a tunic? Plebian men wore Tunic to their knee.
What is a stola? plebian woman wore a plain stola
Explain the term domus? A patrician house in a town.
Explain the term insulae? Pleabians lived in apartment blocks called insulae.
Why was their a risk of fire in the insulae? From wood burning stoves for cooking
Why did people use public baths? Most homes did not have running water, easiest way to stay clean. They were also were people met friends and exchanged news.
What was the tepidarium? The medium heat room
What was the caldarium? the hot room, much like a sauna
What was the frigidarium? the cold water bath
What would take place at the circus maximus? Chariot racing would take place here. Four teams (red, white, blue and green) would race n chariots pulled by teams of two, four or six
What was the most popular entertainment for the Romans? Gladiators
What was the oval arena called ? The Amphitheatres
What was the most famous amphitheatre called? The Colosseum
