3 What caused the Great Depression? decline in world trade, stock market crash and bank failures
3 What caused a decline in world trade in the late 1920's? high tariffs decreased demand for American goods
3 What caused businesses to over produce in the late 1920's? sales were down so companies had a surplus of products, forcing them to layoff employees, reducing people's buying power even more
3 What led to the stock market crash of 1929, beginning with Black Tuesday? bull market gave people false confidence, increasing number of speculators and buying stock on credit. When stock prices fell, people panicked and sold stocks, causing a crash.
3 What led to the failure of banks in the Depression? Banks had lost people's deposits by loaning that money to speculators and investing it themselves and lost it when the stock market crashed.
3. How did the Depression affect the government? Republicans were blamed, giving FDR a long presidency; Power of national government was greatly increased
3 What is FDIC? Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, that insures people's deposits incase of future bank failures; still active today

3 What was the New Deal? FDR's plan to end the Depression, although it didn't. However, it did make things more bearable.
3 What economic effects did WWII have on the US? brought us out of the Depression as our factories produced war materials and foreign trade increased

3 How did WWII affect females in the workplace? women were allowed to work in factories and shipyards("Rosie the Rivetor"); attitudes towards women in the workforce had changed
