| Andrew Jackson | Famous soldier from War of 1812, 7th president, Indian Removal Act, served in both houses of Congress. |
| Indian Removal Act | Signed by President Andrew Jackson granting unsettled lands west of the Mississippi in exchange for Indian lands within existing state borders. A few tribes went peacefully, but many resisted the relocation policy. |
| Indian Territory | Evolving land area (now in E Oklahoma) set aside for Native Americans. |
| John Ross | Principle Chief of the Cherokee Nation during the natives' relocation and Civil War. |
| Trail of Tears | A series of forced relocations of approximately 60,000 Native Americans in the United States from their ancestral homelands in the Southeastern US to west of Mississippi/"Indian Territory." |

| Mexican American War | Between the US and Mexico from 1846 to 1848, helped to fulfill America's "manifest destiny" to expand its territory across the entire North American continent. |
| Bear Flag Revolt | A small group of American settlers in California rebelled against the Mexican government and proclaimed California an independent republic. |
| Treaty of Guadelupe Hidalgo | Ended the Mexican-American War in favor of the United States. Mexico also gave up all claims to Texas and recognized the Rio Grande as America's southern boundary. |
| Oregon Trail | A route used during the U.S. westward migrations, especially in the period from 1840 to 1860, starting in Missouri and ending in Oregon. |
