Material Sources - Forts and Monuments

| Medieval Indian History | Broadly, the period from the ninth century CE till the end of the eighteenth century CE is considered to be the medieval period of Indian history. |
| Sources of History | Various Materials- Written or Unwritten, that tell us about past. |
| Material Sources | Consists of items with physical substances |
| Written sources | Written sources are in form of written texts. |
| Oral Sources | Oral Sources consists of information passed on by word of mouth |
| Types of material Sources | Memorials, Buildings, Cave Sculptures, Inscriptions, Coins, Copper Plates, Forts |
| Types of Forts | Hill forts, forest forts, sea forts and forts on the plains |
| Types of Monuments | samadhis, graves, veergala, palaces, mansions, queens’ quarters and houses |
| Samadhi | Samadhi is erected in the memory of a dead person over the burial place which is structurally enclosed. |
| Grave | Place where dead body is buried |
| Veergalas | Veergala is the martyrs stones erected in the memory of slain, unsung soldiers. |
