| Proclamation of 1763 | this line (following the Appalachian Mtns) after the French and Indian War served to fuel the feelings for revolution |
| French & Indian War | conflict between England and France within the American colonies |
| Stamp Act | tax that must be paid on official documents |
| Boston Tea Party | colonists threw tea in the harbor as a protest against the increase in taxes |
| Boston Massacre | British soldiers fired on anti-British protestors; 5 people were killed |
| First Continental Congress | first time the colonists worked together (except GA); representatives from each colony gathered to discuss plans to oppose the increased taxes and control by England |
| Intolerable Acts | a set of highly opposed taxes that colonists felt were extreme; the Boston harbor was also closed |
| Treaty of Paris | officially ended the Revolutionary War |
