| Abraham Lincoln | 16th President of the United States |
| Robert E. Lee | A General in the Confederate Army Eventually surrendered to General Grant to end the Civil War |
| Battle of Antietam/ Sharpsburg; September 17, 1862 | A creek in Maryland, Union victory, the bloodiest battle of the war, 12,000 union soldiers died, 13,000 confederate soldiers died |
| blockade | sealing off a place to prevent goods or people from entering or leaving |
| ironclads | A ship heavily armored with iron; Ex. Monitor and Virginia |
| constitution | A written plan of government |
| George B. McClellan | A general in the Union Army. In charge of disciplining 100,000 soldiers |
| Harper’s Ferry | A battle location in “West” Virginia. |
| Anaconda Plan | The plan used by the union to cut off supplies to the confederates. |
