Abraham Lincoln 16th President of the United States
Robert E. Lee A General in the Confederate Army Eventually surrendered to General Grant to end the Civil War
Battle of Antietam/ Sharpsburg; September 17, 1862 A creek in Maryland, Union victory, the bloodiest battle of the war, 12,000 union soldiers died, 13,000 confederate soldiers died
blockade sealing off a place to prevent goods or people from entering or leaving
ironclads A ship heavily armored with iron; Ex. Monitor and Virginia
constitution A written plan of government
George B. McClellan A general in the Union Army. In charge of disciplining 100,000 soldiers
Harper’s Ferry A battle location in “West” Virginia.
Anaconda Plan The plan used by the union to cut off supplies to the confederates.
