What the original purpose of the Constitutional Convention of 1787? To fix the Articles of Confederation
What agreement did the delegates at the Constitutional Convention finally reach under the Great Compromise? Congress would have two houses. One based on population of each state, and one with equal representation from each state. Both houses could propose bills, but only the house in which representation was based on population could propose tax bills.
What does it mean that United States of America is a republic? It means that the United States has a form of government in which the people elect representatives to govern the country.
What rights are guaranteed to citizens under the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States? Freedom of religion, speech, press, and the right to assemble.
Why are checks and balances important? How do they help each branch of the federal government make more thoughtful decisions? They keep any one branch from being too powerful. Prevents a branch of the federal government from misusing its authority in a way that harms the government or the people. They make thoughtful decisions because powers can be checked by other branches.
