| Prohibition | Laws that would ban the production and sale of alcohol |
| Patronage | A system in which people get political jobs because they had donated money or were friends with politicians |
| Initiative | The right of citizens to place an issue on a ballot for a direct vote |
| Referendum | A direct vote on a proposed law |
